Assessment and Instructional Planning
Wednesday September 13, 2023 3:30pm - 5:30pm PDT
(Erik Carlson, Tara Colville, Heidi Paxton)
Description: “What kind of ‘data’ am I looking for and what do I do with it once I’ve found it?’”—In this hands-on professional development, participants will come to understand various forms of assessment, the power of feedback, and how to align objectives, tasks, and assessments to support powerful lesson planning. NETs mentors will explain, model and engage you in various, high-impact, assessment strategies so you can implement them the next day in your own classroom setting. This PD is perfect for new or veteran teachers (Gen Ed, SPED, PE, Elective etc.) who are looking to go beyond the state testing and curriculum exit tickets to gather important data regarding their students’ learning in order to plan learning opportunities with intentionality.
Grade Levels: Preschool, TK-8 | Subjects/ Placement: All (Special Education, General Education, TREC, PE, etc.)

High-quality Extended Discourse
Wednesday November 8, 2023 3:30pm - 5:00pm PST
Presented by: Brooke Brumback, Kailee Ennis
High-quality extended discourse empowers students to become a leader of their own learning by engaging in active, collaborative, and meaningful conversation with their peers to clearly communicate their thinking behind a rigorous task.

In this Learning Lab you will walk away with the foundational knowledge of why and how to implement practical, cross-curricular conversation cues and other discourse strategies, in order to increase the depth, equity & efficacy of academic conversations between your students. You will also be provided with complete access to all of the resources we discuss here today.

Learning Targets:
I can explain how extended discourse empowers students to become leaders of their own learning.
I can explain how using extended discourse structures support multilingual learners in acquiring academic language.
I can contribute to building a respectful, active, collaborative, and growth-oriented learning environment.

Guiding Questions:
  • How does extended discourse empower students to become leaders of their own learning and co-construct meaning in rigorous tasks?
  • How does using extended discourse structures support multilingual learners in acquiring academic language?
